Sahra Meltzer
Co-President

Sarah is Co-President of UBC Paw this year! Sarah is a third-year LFS student who is pursuing a dual degree of a Bachelors in Applied Animal Biology and a Masters of Management. She is an aspiring Veterinarian who owns two Aussiedoodle puppies, Spike (in her picture) and Sinatra, whom she loves beyond words can say! Her love for animals started when she was three years old and started horseback riding. When she is not studying, she loves to travel, write poetry, horseback ride and cook!

Bria Andersen
Co-President

​Bria is Co-President of UBC Paw this year! She is majoring in Applied Animal Biology and plans on pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. Bria has had a passion for animals and veterinary medicine her entire life, and is interested in the fields of emergency medicine, rehabilitation, and prosthetic design. Bria enjoys volunteering with animal rescue and rehabilitation organizations, has worked with wildfire burn and electrocution victims out of Costa Rica, and has participated in elephant amputee and prosthetic design projects out of Thailand where she earned a certificate in Veterinary Prosthetic Design. In her free time, she volunteers as a veterinary assistant at a local veterinary clinic, works as a staff assistant at the Wildlife Rescue Association of BC, is a part-time research assistant at the UBC Centre for Disease Modelling, and enjoys listening to true-crime podcasts and going on hikes with her dog, Pekoe.

Kay Yang 
VP Social Engagement/ Fundraising

Kay is the VP Social Engagement/Fundraising of UBC PAW this year! She is majoring in Biology with a minor in Applied Animal Biology. Kay has loved animals for as long as she can remember, and has volunteered at rehabilitation centers and shelters across the world. In the long term, she hopes to help improve animal lives through medicine and technology. In her spare time, she can be found taking photos, exploring new cafes, and hitting the slopes during the winter!

Lucy Rockett
VP Finance

Lucy is a third year Applied Biology major and VP of Finance for UBC Paw this year! She has been around animals her whole life and enjoys advocating for welfare causes and supporting local rescues/ shelters. She likes training ‘problem’ horses and dogs and helping them through their issues so they can be loved in forever homes. She has two Alaskan Malamutes and enjoys hiking, horse riding, climbing and generally being outside with animals to procrastinate studying in her free time.

Hailey Nelson
Veterinary Education and Research 

Hailey is the Veterinary Education and Research Executive this year. She is majoring in Applied Animal Biology and plans on pursuing veterinary medicine. Hailey has 2 dogs, an 11-year-old golden retriever named Snickers and a 15-year-old miniature dachshund named Holly (pictured) back at home who she visits as much as possible. She has also recently welcomed her niece, a 4-month-old Doberman puppy named Feta (yes, like the cheese) who she tries to spend all her free time with. Hailey has been in love with animals since before she can remember and is excited to get the opportunity to help others interested in veterinary medicine reach their goals!

Kate Lamprecht
Rat Handling Coordinator and External Communications

Kate is the Rat Handling Coordinator and External Communications executive for UBC PAW Club this year. She is a third year Biology student that hopes to pursue a career in veterinary science, or health science. Having grown up in South Africa in a pet-obsessed household, Kate has always been surrounded by animals. In South Africa she and her family fostered nearly 200 animals for her local animal welfare society, where she also assisted in the on-site clinic and went on clinic outreach in the surrounding communities. When Kate isn’t with animals or studying she loves to spend time with her family and friends, and finding fun new things to do in Vancouver!

Caroline Li
Graphic Design 

Caroline is the graphic design exec for UBC PAW this year! They are in their third year of pursuing a Bachelor’s in Biology with an interest in research. Formerly a volunteer at the RAPS Animal Hospital and the Rabbitats Rescue Society, Caroline is fascinated by the biology of animals as well as the diversity of pets that can be taken care of, and looks forward to inspiring others about veterinary medicine and animal welfare through graphic forms! In her free time, Caroline may be found drawing, grinding for primogems on Genshin Impact, or enjoying the great outdoors. Her cherished dog, Maria, is a five-year-old Maltese who, like her owner, can go from 0 to 100 energy in a heartbeat.

Maya Lee
Social Media Exec

Maya is our social media exec member of UBCPAW this year! She is entering her second year at UBC and is majoring in applied animal biology. Maya has always had a strong love for animals and an interest in learning about behaviour, welfare and rehabilitation. She hopes to pursue a career path that includes either animal medicine or behavioural research! Maya enjoys taking care of her dog and her two cats and playing with them every second she can. She hopes to volunteer at more shelters, clinics and rescue associations in her free time. Some of her hobbies besides obsessively taking photos of her pets are singing, acting, drawing, baking, and bingeing netflix and kdramas.

Mehak Chawla
Social Media Exec

Hi, my name is Mehak Chawla and I am a 3rd year psychology major. I am an animal lover who believes in spending her life dedicating a wholesome space for animals just like the way they have created for us. Animals teach us so many life lessons and I wish to be as loving and caring as them. Other than petting all the cute doggos I meet, I also love music and exploring cafes wherever I go. Yes, coffee is my guilty pleasure. I am looking forward to meet all you animal lovers and can’t wait to find to start this new journey!!

Isaac Qi
Animal Welfare Education and Research 

Isaac is the Animal Welfare Education and Research Executive for UBC PAW this year. He is majoring in Applied Animal Biology with intent of pursuing Animal Law post graduation, hoping to specialize in property law and charity work. In his spare time, Isaac enjoys going to the gym in the middle of the night, working on his website Harbour Paws, as well as coaching basketball at EH Secondary School. Lastly, Isaac wants to give a shoutout to his tabby cat Onion, who is both the gray physical embodiment of Garfield and Isaac’s favourite being in the world.

Gunjot Mander
Student Engagement

Gunjot is the Student Engagement Executive for UBC PAW! She is a second year student majoring in Microbiology and Immunology. She wishes to study Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Science with interests in exotic veterinary medicine, wildlife conservation, veterinary virology, animal behaviour and animal welfare in food production. Growing up she spent most of her time volunteering at her dad’s veterinary practice and fostering animals. When she isn’t working as a vet assistant, dog rescue volunteer or studying for her classes, she spends her time painting, reading and playing with her 9 year old German Wirehaired Pointer Xena.
