Maya Lee
President

Hi UBC PAW! I am the president of the club this year and I cannot wait to lead ubc paw into an even more paw-some school year. I am a fourth year honours applied animal biology student and since I have joined this club 3 years ago, I have gained such valuable friendships and experiences. I have gotten involved with lab rodent care, large animal care, volunteered for the UBC AWP companion animal lab, the CVO, and been able to host fun and educational events for our lovely members! In my free time I love to sing, play guitar, watch films, overload on matcha, annoy my pets and give back to my community.

Lucy Rockett
Treasurer

Hi! My name is Lucy and I am the Treasurer for UBC PAW for the 2024-2025 winter session. I am in my fifth (and final) year of Applied Animal Biology, and I am excited to graduate and start working in an animal behavior field. My mum put me on a horse at 2 years old and started a lifelong obsession, but I have also grown up with farm animals, dogs, cats and horses. This started a deep interest in understanding animal behavior, recognizing welfare and supporting the animal-human bond for clients. I have worked with safari horses in Africa (highlight of my life), and currently am working with CCM and dog training clients whilst in Vancouver. In my free time, you'll find me planning my next run-away-from-responsibilities adventure or covered in mud after chasing a dog around the park. :) Looking forward to a brilliant year!

Ren Shi
Animal Welfare Education and Research

Kay is the VP Social Engagement/Fundraising of UBC PAW this year! She is majoring in Biology with a minor in Applied Animal Biology. Kay has loved animals for as long as she can remember, and has volunteered at rehabilitation centers and shelters across the world. In the long term, she hopes to help improve animal lives through medicine and technology. In her spare time, she can be found taking photos, exploring new cafes, and hitting the slopes during the winter!

Sejah Hundal
Veterinary Outreach and Education

Sehaj is the Veterinary Education and Research Executive for UBC PAW 2024-2025. She is (hopefully) wrapping up her undergrad in Applied Animal Biology and in the process of vet school applications. When she's not cramming for a midterm, you can find her hanging out with her Service Dog In-Training, Hans, or rewatching The Amazing Spider-Man (with Hans). In her role with UBC PAW, Sehaj is most excited to talk to veterinarians about their experiences in the field of vet med and support aspiring pre-vet students in applying to vet school.

Andie Sexsmith
Student Engagement and Fundraising

Andie is one of the Student Engagement and Fundraising Executives for UBC PAW. She is a third-year student in the Applied Animal Biology program, and after graduation, she plans to pursue veterinary medicine or entomology. She has experience as a volunteer fostering kittens and working in a dog kennel/daycare. Currently, she has a pet black lab and a tuxedo cat that she loves to see when she visits home. Her other interests include music, travel, and watching movies.

Kieran Mooney
Student Engagement and Fundraising

Kieran is one of the Student Engagement and Fundraising executives for UBC PAW. She is in her third year of Applied Animal Biology and hopes to attend the Western College of Veterinary Medicine after graduating from UBC. Kieran’s interest in the veterinary field began at age ten when she borrowed her mother’s collection of James Herriot books (to this day, these books haven’t been returned!). When not in school, you can find her volunteering with a variety of pets, wild animals, and livestock; at riding lessons; or working part-time at a small-animal veterinary hospital.

External Communications

I am the VP Communication for UBC PAW this year. I will be working on meaningful pre-vet and animal welfare opportunities for our members to explore. Hopefully, you will discover interesting experiences and connect with peers who share your passions. I am excited to meet everyone at our events!!

Annie Yin
Marketing Director

Annie is the Marketing Director for UBC PAW 2024-2025. She is in her fourth (and final) year of Applied Animal Biology and will be continuing on to WCVM after graduation. Annie's interest in animals first sparked after watching nature documentaries and has since spread to all aspects of animal welfare, medicine, and conservation. She's had the pleasure of working with CCM, SPCA, and MMR. In her free time, you'll find her planning a trip to Japan, playing volleyball, or walking her cat ^^.
